San Luis Obispo, CA -- On Saturday, October 8th at 11:00 a.m., railroad enthusiasts across SLO County will come together for a Rail Celebration to unveil a brand new, multi-media, walking tour podcast that features the Historic SLO Railroad. The Historic SLO Railroad District podcast is the last of three multi-media walking tour podcasts highlighting historic points of interest within San Luis Obispo.

This exciting new podcast combines audio narrative with visual archival of century-old photos of the city's railroad district. Participants can use their own iPods to experience the walking tour, or borrow one from the History Center during the Rail Celebration. Representatives from the History Center of SLO, SLO City Council, and SLO Railroad Museum, as well as the creative team that donated much of the production, Red Canary and Verdin Marketing, will be on hand to introduce the podcasts, and tours will take place all day long. The Rail Celebration's variety of exciting activities is sure to engage both the avid rail fan as well as those who are simply curious about railroad history. For those who can't make it to the event, the podcasts can also be viewed on-line. The funding for the Historic SLO Railroad District podcast was provided by the City of San Luis Obispo's' Promotional Coordinating Committee.

The Rail Celebration will be held from 10am to 4pm at the north end of the Freight House in SLO's Historic Railroad District. The celebration will include railroad displays and info booths, speeder rides, glimpses into the Freight House, tours of the immediate rail yard and Amtrak Station and two sets of railroad music performed by balladeer Don Lampson.

This event is just one of many being promoted by the Central Coast Railroad Festival from October 6-10. The Festival takes place at rail related locations throughout the County and offers history walks and talks, family programs, model layouts, historical rail buildings and equipment, rail excursions, concerts and loads of railroad fun!
