Cal Poly Swanton Pacific Day
October 12, 2019The Swanton Pacific Railroad always holds its Cal Poly Swanton Pacific Day on or around the weekend of the Central Coast Railroad Festival. This year, their event is on the 12th. Here's info from their website: "The Cal Poly Cal Poly Swanton Pacific Day will be held on Saturday, October 12. We have been working with the Swanton Pacific Ranch and the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences to highlight all of the activities that take place at Swanton Pacific Ranch. Although we expect to begin work on the wash out this spring, it is too early to know if we will be offering train rides this year. At the very least, we expect to have a static display and the volunteers will be at the event to host tours of the roundhouse and shops. If you are interested in volunteering at the Swanton Pacific Railroad this will be a good time to look around and talk with our volunteers. Not all venues are open all days and times. Please read the schedule carefully for days/times that each venue is open.
The SLO Railroad Museum is open SATURDAY ONLY during the Festival.
Actually, some events start in September and go afterward until October 12th, but the Festival proper is October 4th through the 6th. The model railroad layout tour starts on Thursday the 3rd and goes through the 6th.

- Coloring Contest at all San Luis Obispo County Library Locations
- Win round-trip Amtrak tickets (Surfliner) for four from SLO to Santa Barbara
- Coloring pages are available at all SLO Library locations throughout September
- Turn in your colored page at any SLO Library location by September 30th to be entered in the drawing
- The drawing will be at the SLO Railroad Museum on Saturday, October 5th, 2pm.
- For ages 0 through 12 years
- The artwork will be displayed at the Library branches
- Train Story Times and Goodie Bag Giveaway at San Luis Obispo County Libraries
- Appropriate for young children
- Attendees receive a goodie bag with an Operation Lifesaver coloring book, some crayons, a SLO Railroad Museum pencil, and a picture postcard
